Vaccinations initiated in Almaty: J.Bekshin and K.Nadyrov receive their vaccinations

Fresh Take:

Hey there! It's the buzz in the city, folks! Almaty's local communications service has set the stage for a captivating event – a press conference at a city polyclinic. The main stars of the show? The head of Almaty's Department of Quality and Safety Control of goods and services, Zhandarbek Bekshin, the city's chief state sanitary doctor, plus Kamaljan Nadyrov, the boss of the city's public health department. And what a show-stopping act these three put on – they got themselves vaccinated against seasonal flu, live and in color, per Almaty.tv!

Now, here's the scoop: Zhandarbek Bekshin declared the kickoff of a massive vaccination drive on September 15. The plan? To vaccinate at-risk residents of Almaty using 130,000 doses of Russian-made vaccine "Grippol Plus" obtained from the local budget, all free of charge. Moreover, they've submitted an application for an additional 300,000 doses due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Looking back at last year, over 200,000 residents (10.3% of the population) received the vaccine, with 100,000 from the at-risk group getting their shots for free with local budget funds, 93,633 covered by employers, and 7,114 choosing to go the private medical center route. Not a single adverse reaction was reported among those vaccinated.

Kamaljan Nadyrov, the city's public health department head, emphasized the importance of taking this year's vaccination campaign to heart, given the potential overlap of flu and COVID-19 during the ongoing pandemic. He encourages Almaty residents to heed the call and get vaccinated, thereby minimizing the risk of falling ill with ARI or flu during the pandemic and preventing exacerbation of seasonal diseases. Rest assured, the vaccine they've procured has proven itself safe and reliable!

According to Almaty's epidemiological service, a rise in ARI and flu cases will likely occur from late November, with peak numbers hitting in the first quarter of 2021. What makes this epidemiological season unique? The threat of COVID-19 overlapping! Keep your eyes peeled for updates on these developments.
