Tulsa County Warns: Review Infant Sleep Environments After Recalls

Parents and caregivers in Tulsa County are urged to review their infants' sleep environments following recent product recalls of inclined sleepers. The website encourages safe sleep practices to reduce the risk of SIDS and other sleep-related deaths.

The website's Maternal Child Outreach program educates clients on SIDS awareness and safe sleep strategies. SIDS, the sudden, unexplained death of a baby younger than 1 year, remains the leading cause of death for U.S. infants aged 1 month to 1 year. To protect their babies, parents should place them on their backs, use a firm flat sleep surface, and avoid soft bedding and overheating. Congress has passed the Safe Sleep for Babies Act, banning the sale of crib bumpers and inclined sleepers effective November 12, 2022. All models of Rock 'n Play sleepers, linked to approximately 100 deaths, have been recalled. These products, made by Fisher-Price, are no longer offered due to safety recalls and multiple infant deaths.

Parents and caregivers are advised to follow safe sleep practices to protect their infants. Reviewing sleep environments and avoiding recalled products like Rock 'n Play sleepers can help reduce the risk of SIDS and other sleep-related deaths.
