"Trans individual opposes transgender rights legislation"

In celebration of its 10th anniversary, the LGBTQI+ rights section managed by Torino Pride, situated at the Salone del Libro di Torino, is a hub of thematic books and information on the association's activities. Drop by stand E60 for a glimpse into upcoming events like Pride (June 7) and various inclusivity projects. Catch book presentations with writers and activists at Arena Piemonte and other rooms. The program is accessible on the ToPride website and social media channels.

On Friday, May 16, at 7:30 PM in Arena Piemonte, Egon Botteghi, a stalwart in the debate over family dynamics today, will grace the stage with a compelling discussion titled "We are family". As an author and trans individual who transitioned from female to male years ago, Egon is the father of two children and an intersectional activist. He holds a PhD in philosophy and has been associated with the University Center for Sexual Politics since 2014.

So, what does Egon Botteghi make of the current situation regarding LGBTQI+ parenthood in Italy? "The Italian landscape isn't all sunshine and rainbows. Despite various studies demonstrating that functional parenthood hinges on a person's abilities, not their gender, we continue to witness a tenacious defense of the so-called traditional family."

Egon's book, "Stories of trans parents", is not merely a narration of his personal journey but also a testament to the existence and capabilities of trans parents. Initially, he planned a more technical, essay-like book. However, the publisher had different ideas, and he found value in sharing his own experiences. "My story could serve as a compass, offering guidance and assistance."

Raising two children as a trans parent in Italy? According to Egon, "The challenges can vary. There's a tendency to paint a grim picture, spotlighting normative hurdles, almost as if there's a desire to dissuade trans people from parenthood. Although there are hurdles, I want to instill confidence: it's definitely possible."

As a performer and playwright, Egon delves into numerous themes through theater. "I've penned and enacted shows that can be adapted to diverse settings, not just theaters, but also venue spaces of associations. I employ innovative language to communicate with the trans community, but not exclusively. I share our story and the capabilities of our bodies."

Most of Egon's activism revolves around the intersectionality of struggles. "The common thread can be encapsulated in one word: dominance. Over women, animals, trans people, lesbians, or gay people, and the list goes on. The dominance of the ideal identity – the white, cisgender, non-disabled man – over anyone who falls short of this ideal."
