Tragic Incident: 11-year-old perishes in Bilbao following collapse in a swimming pool
In a heartbreaking incident, an 11-year-old boy lost his life at the El Fango municipal pools in Bilbao, Spain. The tragic event occurred on Sunday, when the boy, who was part of a group from a parish in Valencia spending their holidays in Bilbao, became unconscious while playing with other children.
According to the manager of the bar at the municipal pools, several children, including the boy's 11-year-old sister, needed assistance due to the heat, with symptoms of dizziness and exhaustion. The temperature was around 35 degrees on Sunday at the El Fango municipal pools, which may have contributed to the boy's heatstroke.
Upon finding the boy unconscious near a vase, someone present at the pools initiated CPR. By the time emergency services arrived, the boy was stabilized and transported to Cruces Hospital in critical condition. He spent three days in intensive care before passing away on Wednesday.
The mayor of Bilbao, along with the community, mourns the loss of the young boy. The mayor wrote about the unfortunate incident on social media, expressing their condolences to the boy's family and friends.
In addition to the 11-year-old boy, two other children were also taken to the hospital due to symptoms of heatstroke at the El Fango municipal pools on Sunday. Several people needed medical assistance due to heat-related issues or anxiety attacks at the pool that day.
The boy was accompanied by monitors during his holiday in Bilbao. The exact circumstances leading to the boy's heatstroke are still under investigation. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the young boy during this difficult time.
