Tragedy ensues in a schoolyard as a woman plummets from a ladder to her demise
In the heart of Montreal's Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie borough, a tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday morning. A 31-year-old woman, employed by a construction company renovating the Pensionnat Notre-Dame-des-Anges, a private elementary school located on Rosemont Boulevard near Chatelain Street, fell from a ladder while working on the school's roof.
The accident occurred around 6:40 a.m., and the woman fell several metres from the ladder. When emergency services arrived, they found her unconscious and seriously injured. Despite being transported to the hospital in critical condition, she passed away in the afternoon.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident is being conducted by the Commission des normes, de l'équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST). The scene was secured for a thorough investigation, and the timeline for reaching conclusions is several months.
This unfortunate incident marks the second fatal accident reported in the region around the same time. A 21-year-old worker was crushed by an excavator bucket at a construction site in Terrebonne, north of Montreal. However, the ladder fall incident specifically occurred within Montreal proper.
The spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) is Caroline Chevrefils. The CNESST has provided this information to the Canadian site. The school where the accident occurred is currently under renovation.
