Standard Chartered Promotes Mandy DeFilippo as Their Lead Executive in the United States
Mandy DeFilippo has been appointed as the CEO for Standard Chartered's U.S. and Americas region, effective March 24. DeFilippo is joining Standard Chartered from Citadel Securities, where she held the positions of managing director and chief operating officer of legal and compliance, and of risk and operations.
DeFilippo's broad experience across financial markets, banking, and risk management will be valuable in responding to the needs of Standard Chartered's US and Americas clients, according to Roberto Hoornweg, CEO of Europe, Americas, Middle East, and Africa at Standard Chartered.
Before joining Standard Chartered, DeFilippo held several senior roles at Morgan Stanley, including global head of business unit risk management for its fixed income division. She is also a lecturer at Harvard Law School and served as chair of the International Capital Market Association for several years.
DeFilippo will be the first woman to hold Standard Chartered's U.S. and Americas CEO post. This appointment follows the trend of increasing representation of women in top leadership roles in the banking sector. Jane Fraser is currently the only other woman leading a top-10 American bank (Citi).
Meanwhile, Maria Ramos has been named as the next board chair at Standard Chartered, replacing José Viñals who is retiring in May. Ramos joined Standard Chartered in 2021 and became senior independent director and chair of the board's risk committee the following year.
In other changes, Pam Kaur has been appointed as the first woman chief financial officer at HSBC. Lisa McGeough has been appointed as the CEO of HSBC US, effective January 1. Jennifer Piepszak became the chief operating officer at JPMorgan Chase last month.
It's worth noting that women hold CEO positions in several of Standard Chartered's other markets. Germana Cruz is the CEO in Latin America, Judy Hsu is the CEO in wealth and retail banking, and Anna Urbanska is the CEO of Standard Chartered's Polish bank.
Marianne Lake is a potential successor at JPMorgan Chase, with Jamie Dimon currently at the helm. The appointment of DeFilippo at Standard Chartered marks a significant step forward in the representation of women in top banking roles.
