Southern Romania's Călimănești Balneo-Physiotherapy Clinic to undergo a 10 million Euro rehabilitation project
The Balneo-Physiotherapy Clinic in Calimănești, Romania, is set to undergo a significant transformation, with a EUR 10 million rehabilitation project financed by the European Union. This announcement was made by the President of the Vălcea County Council, Constantin Rădulescu, in a press release on Thursday.
The project aims to modernize and upgrade the clinic's infrastructure and equipment, enhancing healthcare services related to balneotherapy and physiotherapy. The objective is to restore the clinic to the medical circuit at the highest standards, providing quality services in a modern space equipped with state-of-the-art equipment.
Key aspects of the rehabilitation plan include renovating the clinic's facilities to meet contemporary healthcare standards, acquiring and installing modern medical and physiotherapy devices, improving accessibility for people with disabilities, implementing eco-friendly and energy-saving technologies, and providing specialized training for healthcare professionals.
The works include seismic strengthening, modernization of the entire building, construction of a covered thermal water pool, and installation of photovoltaic panels for energy efficiency. The project timeline does not start until the completion of the tender for the execution of the works.
Originally constructed as a hotel in 1920, the Balneo-Physiotherapy Clinic was seized by communist authorities after the Second World War and rebuilt into a clinic following a fire in 1959. Despite its history, the clinic has been providing care for various conditions, including renal, digestive, joint conditions, allergies, metabolic disorders, and burns. Currently, it caters to post-AVC patients.
This project is part of a broader EU-supported effort to develop regional health infrastructure, promoting wellness tourism and contributing to sustainable socio-economic development in Calimănești and the surrounding region. The rehabilitated clinic is expected to improve the quality and accessibility of medical treatments for patients, fostering local health tourism and boosting the regional economy.
The Vălcea County Council purchased the Balneo-Physiotherapy Clinic, and the building housing the clinic was returned to its original owners at the end of the 2000s. The popularity of the clinic before it fell into degradation is a testament to its potential, and the project aims to benefit the people of Vălcea and all those who choose the Calimănești resort for treatment.
The project's successful completion will mark a significant step forward in the development of regional health infrastructure, promoting wellness tourism and contributing to sustainable socio-economic development in Calimănești and the surrounding region.
The rehabilitation project will focus on updating the Balneo-Physiotherapy Clinic's facilities, integrating modern medical equipment and devices, to provide advanced health and wellness services, including fitness and exercise programs for various medical conditions. Upon completion, the clinic aims to offer quality services in a sustainable, energy-efficient, and accessible environment, contributing to the growth of medical tourism and boosting the regional economy.
