Long-time entertainer Billy Joel has consistently comforted his audience. However, recent health concerns are set to be divulged.

US music legend Billy Joel has announced that he is suffering from a severe health condition known as Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) and will have to limit his performances. The 76-year-old shared this information on his official Instagram profile.

NPH, also known as Age-related Hydrocephalus, is a condition that causes the accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the brain's ventricles, putting pressure on nerves that control various bodily functions. Symptoms can include memory impairment, urinary frequency, and gait and balance disturbances.

Joel's recent performances have exacerbated his health issues, resulting in the cancellation of all upcoming concerts. In a statement, the musician expressed his apologies to fans and thanked them for their understanding. He is currently undergoing treatment, according to medical advice, and will not be performing as he recovers.

Initially, Joel postponed concerts in March due to health reasons. In July 2021, he concluded his legendary concert series at New York's Madison Square Garden after 10 years and 150 shows. Despite postponements due to illnesses and the COVID-19 pandemic, he consistently performed there once a month except for the pandemic period.

It's unclear when Joel will return to the stage, as no specific timeline has been given. His worldwide fame stems from iconic songs like "Piano Man" and "We Didn't Start The Fire."

  1. Billy Joel's neurological disorder, Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, is typically associated with aging and can cause mental health issues such as memory impairment, which might hinder his ability to perform music.
  2. Apart from memory impairment, Joel's health condition also exhibits symptoms like urinary frequency and gait and balance disturbances, making it challenging for him to continue his health-and-wellness routine including performances.
  3. Given that science has yet to develop a definitive treatment or cure for neurological disorders like NPH, Joel's medical-condition may require extensive and ongoing treatment, potentially delaying his return to live performances and adding yet another layer to the complexities faced by people dealing with aging and its related complications.
