Seven Hospitals Merge in Western Lower Bavaria for Optimal Care
A significant healthcare milestone is set for January 1, 2026, as seven local hospitals in western Lower Bavaria merge to form a common municipal enterprise. Backed by the city and district, this merger aims to create a robust clinic network for optimal local medical care.
The city and district stand united as sponsors, having reached a joint agreement with employee representatives to ensure a fair and well-regulated transition. The Munich strategy consultancy Inspiring Health has developed a professional concept focusing on strengths, competencies, and regional connections. This merger includes Landshut Clinic, LAKUMED Clinics, St. Marien Children's Hospital, Landshut-Achdorf, Vilsbiburg, Schlossklinik Rottenburg, and Hospice Vilsbiburg.
The goal is to secure and selectively expand the current level of care, strengthen competitiveness, and make jobs future-proof. The new team of approximately 5,000 employees is already embracing the network, with Fachliche teams coming together and silo thinking giving way to cooperation. The implementation of the medical concept will occur in stages, starting January 1, 2026, with centralizations requiring personnel, structural, and construction preparations.
The merger, approved unanimously by the city council of Landshut and the district council of Landshut district, enters its decisive implementation phase. By January 1, 2026, the merged hospitals will form a common municipal enterprise, promising optimal and local medical care for the region.
