Railway authorities in Lower Saxony respond harshly to assaults on staff, implementing strict measures and potentially severe penalties for offenders.
In an effort to foster a better future for interpersonal relations at railway stations, Deutsche Bahn has launched a unique campaign in Lower Saxony. The initiative, named the 'Respect Campaign', aims to promote more respect and less aggression towards staff in Northern Germany.
The campaign was kick-started at Hannover's main station, with the goal of sensitizing people against disrespectful behavior towards railway employees and others. Posters at railway stations aim to raise awareness about incidents involving railway staff, some of which have become commonplace.
Sadly, incidents of railway staff being verbally abused have become increasingly prevalent. Some people have been taking their tone to extremes, even in public transportation. In response, Deutsche Bahn announced that there were 3,324 physical assaults on their employees nationwide last year, not including verbal abuse and insults.
To combat this issue, the prevention team is working tirelessly. Members of the team are handing out postcards to passengers, featuring messages promoting considerate behavior as part of the 'Respect Campaign'. The postcards serve as a gentle reminder to treat railway staff and fellow passengers with respect and kindness.
The 'Respect Campaign' will also visit railway stations in Kiel, Braunschweig, and Göttingen. The campaign is set to run until mid-October, providing ample opportunity for passengers to embrace the message of respect and consideration.
While the initiator or sponsoring group of the 'Respekt-Kampagne' in Lower Saxony cannot be identified explicitly, doctors in the region are voicing their concerns. They are calling for a ban on fireworks due to instances of violent misuse, hoping to create a safer environment for everyone.
As interpersonal relations have become more brusque over the years, catching everyone's attention, the 'Respect Campaign' could not have come at a better time. The goal is to make railway stations in Lower Saxony, Bremen, Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Kiel, Braunschweig, and Göttingen safer and more respectful places for all.
