Psychiatric care patient carries out deadly knife attack the subsequent day.

In Hamburg, a 39-year-old woman identified as Lydia S., a resident of Lower Saxony, has been taken into custody following a knife attack at Central Station that left 18 individuals injured. Authorities suspect Lydia may have been receiving psychiatric treatment as recently as the day prior to the incident.

As reported by Bild, Lydia was discharged from a psychiatric facility in Bremerhaven on May 22, just a day before the attack occurred between tracks 13 and 14. The woman allegedly stabbed nearby bystanders with a knife, having been seen brandishing a knife on the station's south side earlier.

Police have stated that Lydia acted alone and there is no evidence suggesting political or extremist motivations behind the attack. They also noted that there were strong indications of a mental illness influencing her actions.

Lydia is facing charges for attempted manslaughter and inflicting dangerous bodily harm in 15 cases. She has a prior criminal record, including a history of carrying an undeclared blunt weapon, and is believed to be homeless.

The police have revealed that three women aged 24, 52, and 85, as well as a 24-year-old man, are among the critically injured. Seven people suffered severe injuries, while another seven sustained light injuries. As some of the injured have been discharged, further updates on their conditions are expected.

The suspect's documented psychiatric history includes a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia. Although initial investigations ruled out drug or alcohol influence during the attack, authorities continue to examine her mental state at the time of the incident.
