Laying Bare Long-Hidden Secrets: Two Brave Men Recount Alleged Abuse at the Hands of Former Coach

Finally breaking their silence after years of silence, two courageous individuals have shared their harrowing stories of sexual abuse during their formative years. The trial of Bryan Mayer, a 54-year-old ex-coach and high school teacher, commenced on Monday at the Saint-Jérôme courthouse, with testimony from these victims.

Bryan Mayer stands accused of eleven serious crimes, including sexual assault, sexual contact, incitement to sexual contact, voyeurism, and criminal harassment against three different victims.

Hailing from Terrebonne, Mayer once worked at a secondary school within the northern crown during the years 2005 to 2009. In addition to teaching, he was involved in extracurricular activities within the institution.

Reportedly, Mayer targeted three distinct victims, young men who attended the school where he worked. In one instance, the alleged acts occurred when the victim was still a minor, and their identities are protected by a court order.

Éric*, a former student of the school, first knew Mayer as a teacher. In 2012, Mayer began inviting him to parties at his house. According to Éric's testimony, these gatherings often drew together former students from the secondary school where Mayer had worked.

During one particular evening, Éric consumed too much alcohol to drive and retired for the night in Mayer's bed. As he slept, Mayer allegedly joined him, touched his thigh and genital area, and even performed oral sex. Finding himself aghast and frozen, Éric maintained the silence for years.

"That event left an indelible mark on my life. I never spoke a word about it to anyone. I acted as if it never happened," Éric* powerfully stated during his testimony.

It wasn't until several years later that he confided in a high school friend about his harrowing experience. "Whispers of misconduct were buzzing through the halls," he explained on Monday.

Only after confronting Mayer, later in his life, did Éric unburden himself of the traumatic events that had occurred years earlier.

Richard*, the second victim, discovered his love for basketball as soon as he entered high school, where he encountered Bryan Mayer. At one point, Richard found himself at Mayer's house for an event.

According to Richard's account, the accused took a shower and emerged from the bathroom in tight boxers, intentionally brushing up against Richard, who was seated on a couch. Allegedly, Mayer was erect, leaving Richard questioning his actions.

The accused then proceeded to tickle him, attempting to make the incident seem like a mere joke, according to the plaintiff. However, Richard testified that he felt tense.

Judge Maria Albanese presides over the trial that is set to span four days. MBenoit Demchuck defends Mayer, while MEsteé Voukirakis and MStephanie Gilbert represent the Ministry of Public Prosecutions.

Another victim is scheduled to testify on Tuesday morning.
