Murmurs of a province-wide investigation are growing like wildfire, particularly by the opposition in Quebec. To restore faith in the system, they insist that the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse (CDPDJ) should scrutinize every single placement and adoption file from 2023 onwards.

"Calling this a disgrace is putting it lightly," said Carmant about the matter. "Children's safety and well-being are of utmost importance when deciding the course of action in these scenarios, and I will not tolerate actions that harm their delicate lives."

In the wake of this explosive revelation, a new training program will be implanted to equip these "do-gooders" with the tools they need to uphold their ethical standards without fail.

An Abuses of Power Scandal

The story broke on Monday, as La Presse shared the shocking news. As it turns out, DPJ workers willingly swore under oath and wilfully misguided the court with the intent of keeping three children far away from their mother, despite evidence proving the father's innocence.

The children in question were aged preschool or early primary school. The foster family has since filed a lawsuit, naming the DPJ and Quebec Health among its adversaries.

This chapter of corruption marks the latest scandal in a series of unethical practices by the DPJ. A CDPDJ investigation a few months ago in Mauricie revealed that dozens of children had been hastily placed for adoption without proper analysis, and with the presentation of erroneous information to the court.

Demand for a Province-Wide Investigation

Now that the cat is out of the bag, the liberal opposition in Quebec is calling for a large-scale investigation. "It's going to take more than a slap on the wrist to restore trust in our institutions," argued Brigitte B. Garceau, the spokesperson for the Liberal Party of Quebec on youth protection. "We need to get to the bottom of this and ensure justice for all."

Nancy Audet, a conference speaker, author, and former DPJ employee, echoed the sentiment. "I've seen countless families suffer at the hands of the system, and I won't stand by while innocent children are treated like pawns," she said passionately.

Audet suggested that the CDPDJ should reconsider their approach, conducting thorough investigations and presenting themselves in court when necessary. "These officers should be the watchdogs in our community," she insisted.

However, the CDPDJ has had a history of pulling their punches, instead opting to focus on systemic issues and leaving the courtroom to others. According to Stephanie Gareau, vice-president and youth mandate responsible at the CDPDJ, "it has become necessary to establish a national coordination table and regional tables between the DPJ and the courts to help harmonize practices in youth protection and to improve understanding of the rights of children and the responsibilities of different socio-judicial actors."

The ministers have three months to respond.

The CDPDJ played a crucial role in this matter, but their role has been called into question. Stefanie Gareau, vice-president of the CDPDJ, has defended the organization, stating that they will present themselves in court when it is required. "The system is broken and needs attention," stated Nancy Audet. "The CDPDJ needs to step up and serve as a beacon of hope for these innocent children."
