Medical professionals successfully retrieved a fragments of a temperature sensing device from a young girl aged 8's bodily structures.

In a recent incident, an 8-year-old girl from Artem sustained an injury when a broken mercury thermometer pierced her armpit. The incident took place in a car, and the girl was urgently taken to the emergency room of Artem City Hospital No.1.

The consultation was necessary for proper treatment and management of the situation. Specialists at Artem City Hospital No.1 held a remote consultation with toxicologists from Vladivostok Clinical Hospital No.2 to discuss the best course of action.

After the operation, X-rays and necessary tests were performed on the girl. Fortunately, no immediate risk of mercury poisoning was detected after the operation. However, the girl's recovery and discharge do not indicate the complete resolution of the mercury exposure risk, as continued monitoring may still be required.

The successful removal of the mercury thermometer fragment marks a significant step in the girl's treatment and recovery process. The girl has since been discharged from Artem City Hospital No.1 and is currently feeling well. No surgical intervention was necessary after the operation.

Mercury thermometer-related injuries in children are relatively uncommon but still a recognized hazard due to the potential for glass breakage and mercury exposure. Exposure to mercury vapors poses significant health risks, including neurotoxicity and organ damage, especially with long-term or high-level inhalation. Symptoms of mercury poisoning may include tremors, memory problems, respiratory distress, and kidney damage.

Regulatory actions have reduced the presence of mercury thermometers to minimize both injury and poisoning risks. Childcare regulations explicitly advise against using glass or mercury thermometers to prevent such hazards.

This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers of mercury thermometers and the importance of following safety guidelines to protect children from injury and exposure. The girl's case is being managed to exclude the risk of mercury poisoning and plan further monitoring as necessary.

The specialists at Artem City Hospital No.1 and Vladivostok Clinical Hospital No.2 held a consultation about the best approach to manage the medical-conditions caused by the girl's injury from a broken mercury thermometer, focusing on health-and-wellness aspects, particularly the risks of mercury poisoning. Despite no immediate risk detected after the operation, continued monitoring is necessary to ensure the complete resolution of the mercury exposure risk.
