Legendary Primatologist Jane Goodall Dies at 91

Renowned primatologist, anthropologist, and conservationist Jane Goodall has passed away at the age of 91. She was scheduled to speak in Pasadena, California, but a pre-recorded video message was played instead.

Goodall's love for animals began in childhood, inspired by books like 'Doctor Dolittle' and 'Tarzan'. She founded the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) in 1977 to improve the treatment and understanding of primates. Throughout her study, she proved that primates display human-like behaviors and can make and use tools, revolutionizing the field of ethology.

Born in London in 1934, Goodall began her research on chimpanzees in the wild at the age of 26 in Tanzania's Gombe National Park. She dedicated her life to protecting chimpanzees and their habitats, working tirelessly for environmental protection. In 2019, she acknowledged the climate crisis and partnered with Apple in 2022 to encourage device recycling. Goodall was named a United Nations Messenger of Peace in 2002 and continued to advocate for environmental causes into her 80s and 90s.

Jane Goodall's legacy lives on through the Jane Goodall Institute, which continues her mission to protect chimpanzees and their habitats while promoting community-centered conservation and development programs globally. Her discoveries and advocacy have left an indelible mark on the world, inspiring generations to come.
