International Gathering in Dusseldorf: Advocating for Pure Drinking Water Worldwide

In a bid to address the global issue of drinking water justice, the Neven Subotic Foundation, founded by the former Borussia Dortmund footballer, has been actively working on providing clean drinking water in Tanzania, Kenya, and Ethiopia. According to Subotic, the foundation has drilled 482 wells, enabling 200,000 people to survive.

The foundation's work is a testament to the importance of clean drinking water as a human right, a belief Subotic strongly advocates. He emphasizes the moral obligation of industrialized countries to help those in need, especially considering that many millions of people still face the problem of access to clean drinking water.

In a recent development, Subotic expressed interest in replicating the Global Brunch event format, which was hosted by the Intercultural Promoter Program of the One World Network NRW, the Support Association Düsseldorf-Marrakech, the FSI Forum for Social Innovation, and the One World Forum Düsseldorf. The event, which offered breakfast and information on the topic of drinking water, was held in Düsseldorf to discuss the drinking water problem in Marrakech, a city often facing water scarcity.

Subotic was invited as a speaker for the keynote lecture at the event, where the discussion among the 30 participants was enthusiastic after his lecture. The event also highlighted the "Cloud Catchers of Marrakech" project, led by the German Water Foundation and an NGO, which aims to generate water for people and agriculture in Marrakech.

Despite the lack of detailed or updated progress reports in public sources, the Neven Subotic Foundation's commitment to providing water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities in East African countries remains evident. The foundation's work aligns with the 100% WASH project run by the well:fair foundation, which is active in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania, focusing on installing water and sanitation systems in rural areas to improve health and dignity through access to clean water and hygiene.

For the most accurate and current updates on the Neven Subotic Foundation’s projects in these countries, consulting the foundation’s official communications or recent project reports would be necessary.

The Neven Subotic Foundation, recognizing the inextricable link between science and health-and-wellness, is exploring the potential application of innovative water collection technologies, such as the Cloud Catchers of Marrakech, to enhance their water provision efforts. Subotic, advocating for a global approach to health-and-wellness, underscores the significance of science in addressing challenges like the access to clean drinking water, a concern that spans both industrialized and developing nations.
