Infant weighing 2.2 pounds undergoes heart surgery in Shymkent
A 45-day-old baby, weighing a petite 1 kilogram, received a life-saving, complex heart surgery at the Shymkent City Perinatal Center. Born prematurely at 25 weeks, this tiny tot fought through numerous obstacles to reach this critical moment.
Born weighing only 655 grams and measuring 28 centimeters, the baby was immediately admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit of the center, where medical professionals diagnosed the baby with "patent ductus arteriosus" (a congenital heart defect) and respiratory distress syndrome. Placed on a ventilator due to the critical state, doctors consulted with cardiothoracic surgeons from the city multiple times to devise a suitable treatment plan.
Despite the daunting challenge, the baby experienced a significant milestone when reaching 45 days old and weighing 1 kilogram.
