Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College Wins Prestigious IBCLC Care Award
Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre in Pimpri, Pune, has been honoured with the IBCLC Care Award 2025-2027. This international recognition is bestowed by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® (IBLCE®) and the International Lactation Consultant Association® (ILCA®), USA. The hospital is the first and only institution in India to receive this award for two consecutive terms, highlighting its sustained excellence in lactation and breastfeeding support services.
The award underscores the hospital's commitment to exemplary lactation and breastfeeding support services, delivered by a team of seven International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs). One of these consultants, Dr. Shailaja Mane, leads the Yashoda Advanced Human Milk Bank, a facility that plays a pivotal role in supporting premature and vulnerable infants.
The Yashoda Advanced Human Milk Bank has distributed over 5.6 lakh ml of donor milk to more than 20,133 infants since its inception in September 2013. This bank addresses India's high neonatal mortality rates, particularly for preterm and low birth weight infants who cannot be breastfed directly by their mothers. The bank's impact on neonatal healthcare across Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune, and neighbouring regions is significant, as it provides critical lactation support and donor milk to critically ill neonates, thereby improving health outcomes for this vulnerable population.
Dr. Bhagyashree Patil, Pro-Chancellor of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, expresses pride in the institution's commitment to newborn nutrition and care. Dr. Yashraj Patil, Trustee & Treasurer of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, views the global recognition as an honor and a responsibility. Dr. Rekha Arcot, Dean of Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, acknowledges the IBCLC Care Award as an affirmation of the institution's high standards in maternal and child health.
Beyond direct clinical services, the award reflects the institution’s broader dedication to breastfeeding promotion and lactation consultancy, positioning the hospital as a national leader in this domain with demonstrated sustained excellence and influence on infant healthcare standards. Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre is accredited by NABH, NABL, and AHPI, and holds the 11th rank in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). It is also ISO 2015 certified and has been awarded A++ status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
