The New Brunswick government has made a significant stride in improving primary care for thousands of residents in Restigouche County. Premier Susan Holt announced the establishment of a family health-care team in Campbellton, which is expected to serve up to 4,200 patients.

The team, comprised of three physicians - Dr. Jennifer Kingsley, Dr. Andrew White, and Dr. Emma MacDonald - along with a licensed practical nurse and a social worker, has already taken on 2,700 patients. The physicians have completed the Practice Ready Assessment New Brunswick program, enabling them to practice medicine in the province.

Health Minister John Dornan emphasised the importance of team-based care for both better patient care and support for primary care providers. He stated, "This collaborative model is attractive to physicians and nurse practitioners, as it allows for a more comprehensive approach to patient care."

The family health-care team in Campbellton is part of a larger commitment to establish community care clinics in 10 places across New Brunswick. The government aims to create at least 30 local collaborative family health teams, with Campbellton being one of the first.

The government has allocated $600,000 to fund the family health-care team, which is aimed at treating thousands of patients in Campbellton. The team is also part of a programme that allows internationally-trained physicians to become licensed and work in New Brunswick.

The establishment of this family health-care team is a significant step towards ensuring that New Brunswickers have access to the primary care they need. The government's commitment to community care clinics will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the health and well-being of residents in Restigouche County and beyond.
