Global Availability of Hydration Solutions: Tetra Pak's Dissemination of Ready-To-Drink ORS Signals International ORS Day Celebration
Tetra Pak's RTD ORS Promotes Hydration Awareness and Health Equity in India
In an effort to combat dehydration, especially during heat waves and diarrhoeal illnesses, Tetra Pak has launched an initiative to promote smart hydration across India. The focus of the initiative is on accessibility and awareness about the value of Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) in maintaining health, especially during vulnerable seasons.
The initiative is being amplified through a 360-degree outreach effort, including on-ground distribution drives, informative radio segments, and engaging social media content. Tetra Pak's Ready-To-Drink (RTD) ORS contributes to hydration awareness and health equity by providing an accessible, convenient, and immediate solution for dehydration.
The RTD ORS in Tetra Pak cartons is ready to consume without preparation, facilitating immediate rehydration and electrolyte replenishment, which is crucial in preventing dehydration-related mortality and morbidity in settings with limited access to clean water or health facilities. Initiatives distributing hundreds of thousands of these RTD ORS cartons in Indian cities like Kanpur, Ahilyanagar, and Asansol provide instant relief during peak heat, raising awareness about dehydration and expanding equitable access to life-saving hydration.
By providing affordable, easy-to-use ORS in a durable, aseptic packaging format that prevents contamination and extends shelf life, Tetra Pak RTD ORS helps bridge gaps in hydration products' availability for remote and economically disadvantaged communities. The products promote awareness of hydration and electrolyte balance benefits, endorsed by WHO formulations and medical professionals, helping to educate populations on managing diarrhoea, vomiting, and heat stress, common causes of dehydration in India.
Palatable, flavored options such as mango and orange increase acceptance among children and adults, improving compliance to hydration therapy, thus supporting better health outcomes. The month-long drive culminates on World ORS Day, July 29. TSL Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Tetra Pak, believes that health equity begins with access.
The RTD ORS packs were developed by trusted brands: Halewood (ElectroRush), Kenvue (ORSL), and Alkem (ORS Insta). The initiative aims to empower communities with the tools they need to care for their health, starting with hydration. The simple message reinforced is that staying well-hydrated should be easy, safe, and part of everyday life.
