Fatal Neglect in Nursing Home: Court Convicts Former Care Worker - Former Caregiver Sentenced for Manslaughter of 93-Year-Old in Nursing Home

A 21-year-old former caregiver has been sentenced for the manslaughter of a 93-year-old woman in a Gotha nursing home. The court found her guilty of strangling or throttling the vulnerable woman during her shift in July 2024.

The victim, a 93-year-old woman with dementia, was bedridden and helpless. The court ruled out the possibility of her provoking the attack. The motive for the crime remains unknown, as the young woman did not provide an explanation.

The public prosecutor's office had sought a seven-year sentence, but the court imposed a four-year-ten-month term, considering it a youth sentence due to the defendant's lack of adult criminal conviction history.

The former caregiver was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to four years and ten months in prison. The court's decision brings some closure to the case, although the motive behind the tragic incident remains unclear.
