Fire at Saarbrücken Psychiatric Clinic Injures Six, Damages Building
A serious fire broke out at a psychiatric clinic in Saarbrücken on Friday evening, leading to the evacuation of around 100 people and injuring six. The blaze started in a patient's room and is suspected to have been deliberately set.
The fire began around 5:30 PM on the first floor of the main building. It quickly spread, prompting a complete evacuation. Around 250 emergency responders rushed to the scene to battle the flames. Preliminary investigations suggest that a 52-year-old patient, who was being treated in a closed facility, may have started the fire deliberately.
The fire resulted in significant damage, estimated to be in the low seven-figure range. Some patients had to be transferred to other clinics as the building is now partially unusable. Six people, including an emergency responder, suffered minor smoke inhalation and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with no specific police or authority named as conducting further inquiries into the suspected arson. The clinic and emergency services are working to restore the building's functionality and ensure the safety of its patients.
