Festival Performance Honors Elderly Citizens in Almaty on International Older Persons Day
Let's Celebrate the International Day of Older Persons!
Every year on October 1st, we come together to honor the older generation around the globe, a tradition that started way back in 1991 at the 45th session of the United Nations General Assembly. In Kazakhstan, this significant day is no exception!
Almaty's Heartwarming Celebration
The city of Almaty, led by Mayor Bakytzhan Sagintayev, celebrates this day with grandeur. Streaming with gratitude and appreciation, the city rolls out annual festivals, conferences, and charity events to champion the rights of the elderly in every city and region across Kazakhstan.
This year, a concert was held at the traditional art theater "Aлатау" to celebrate the occasion. The performers did not shy away from showcasing the importance of care, love, and respect towards the aged. According to Rosa Zhunuskyzy, head of the multimedia traditional music center, "Despite the pandemic situation, we decided to invite our parents to the concert to boost their spirits and bring them a little joy through songs and poems."
Engaging the Elderly Community
A meeting with the city's veterans' council at the Almaty Akimat was also part of the celebrations. And let's not forget Almaty resident Rosa KuspANOVA, who expressed her joy after attending the event, stating, "It's a tough time with the coronavirus, so events like these truly warm the heart."
The Role of Active Longevity Centers
Though specific traditions related to the International Day of Older Persons in Kazakhstan may not be renowned, the country has taken active strides to ensure the well-being of their elderly citizens. The Active Longevity Centers scattered across the country support the social and physical well-being of older adults, offering activities like yoga, therapy exercises, and educational classes[2].
These centers play a significant role, particularly during challenging times such as a pandemic, by providing a platform for social interaction, learning, and physical activity, which are essential for maintaining mental and physical health[2]. So, even amidst the pandemonium, initiatives like these are instrumental in keeping the spirits high of our elderly population.
So here's to the older generation, may you stay healthy, happy, and radiant! Continue being active members of society, adding essence, experience, and wisdom wherever you roam. Cheers to another year of whizzing through the International Day of Older Persons with gratitude, love, and a wealth of experience in tow!
