Fausto undergoes removal of breathing tube post-surgery for kidney and liver transplant, continues hospitalization in São Paulo.

Faustão Undergoes Multiple Organ Transplants

Faustão, one of the most prominent figures in Brazilian television history, has faced a challenging health journey over the past few years. In August 2023, the celebrated presenter underwent a heart transplant due to heart failure.

This marked the beginning of a complex series of medical procedures. In 2024, Faustão required a kidney transplant as a result of renal complications exacerbated by immunosuppressive medications. Fast forward to August 6-7, 2025, and Faustão underwent a liver transplant combined with a kidney retransplant at Israelita Albert Einstein Hospital in São Paulo. These surgeries were performed consecutively with organs from a single donor, coordinated by the São Paulo State Transplant Agency.

Faustão had been hospitalized since May 21, 2025, due to a severe bacterial infection that led to sepsis. The kidney retransplant was planned for about a year and was combined with the liver transplant to improve chances of recovery.

The extubation, the process of removing a patient's breathing tube, happened days after Faustão underwent liver and kidney transplants, performed on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. Faustão, now 75, was extubated on Saturday, September 9.

Prior to these latest surgeries, Faustão had undergone a kidney transplant in February of the previous year due to worsening of a chronic kidney disease. His doctors did not rule out the need for a second kidney transplant last August.

Faustão's health status has been affected by multiple organ transplants. He remains hospitalized under the care of doctors Fernando Bacal and Arnaldo Cividanes. On Father's Day, September 10, Faustão received a visit from his three children: Lara, João, and Rodrigo. Unfortunately, Luciana Cardoso, Faustão's wife, was unable to be present as she was sick with a cold.

Faustão has been off TV since May 2023, with his last appearance on open TV being "Faustão na Band". He requires special attention for infectious control and clinical and nutritional rehabilitation to stabilize his health condition. We wish Faustão a speedy and full recovery.
