Increasing Affordable Care Act subsidies results in an additional 3.6 million individuals receiving health insurance coverage, according to a Ceasar Budget Office assessment, with a total price tag of $350 billion.

Expansion of Obamacare subsidies results in 3.6 million additional individuals receiving insurance coverage, according to the Congressional Budget Office, at an estimated cost of $350 billion.

The Obamacare premium subsidy tax credits, set to expire at the end of the year, have become a contentious issue in Congress. The renewal of these expanded subsidies could potentially result in a net increase of 7.4 million insured people by 2035, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).

However, the high cost of renewing the subsidies may pose a challenge for Republican leaders in gaining support from fiscal conservatives. The renewal would cost the Treasury $350 billion over the decade.

The CBO has also analyzed the impact of extending these subsidies and found that premiums for Obamacare marketplace plans would be lower by 7.6% on average over the next decade with the extended subsidies. This would translate to a significant reduction in healthcare costs for millions of Americans.

The Democrats are putting pressure on the GOP over the looming expiration of the credits, arguing that failing to extend them could result in at least 3.5 million people losing health insurance coverage by 2030.

Interestingly, some centrist members of the Republican party favor extending the subsidies, recognising the potential benefits they could bring in terms of increased coverage and lower premiums.

However, the issue remains divisive, with many fiscal conservatives expressing concerns about the cost of the renewal. As the deadline for a decision approaches, it remains to be seen whether Congress will choose to extend the Obamacare premium subsidy tax credits or let them expire, potentially leaving millions without healthcare coverage.
