Expansion of Colors at Holy Cross: Introducing Pink into the Purple Tradition
Holy Cross's Pink the Rink Event Kicks Off Winter Season with a Touch of Pink
The College of the Holy Cross recently hosted its annual "Pink the Rink" event, a breast cancer awareness initiative that brought together students, athletes, and the community. The event, held at the Luth Athletic Center on February 1, 2025, was a great kickoff for the rest of the 2024-2025 winter season.
The Men's and Women's Hockey teams added an extra layer of excitement to the evening as both teams won their games in overtime. Junior forward Matt DeBoer scored the game-winning goal for the Men's team, while Senior defensewoman Carmen Elliott did the same for the Women's team.
In the spirit of the event, the entryway was adorned with pink heart balloons, streamers, and pink tablecloths. The atmosphere was further enhanced by the pink dorm transformation in Clark, created by Danielle Ford and Daniela Alecio. Their creation, featuring sunsets and succulents, aimed to captivate everyone who passed by.
Students showed their support by wearing special edition Holy Cross pink beanies and a pink ribbon. These beanies raised significant funds for the Pink Revolution Breast Cancer Alliance of New Hampshire.
Hockey coaches pledged to donate $1 to Breast Cancer research for every Holy Cross student who attended the games. During the intermission, a video of hockey players holding the name of a personal connection to cancer was displayed on the Jumbotron, further emphasizing the event's purpose.
The "HC for A Cure" student organization arranged the hat-selling table, demonstrating their commitment to the cause.
In addition to covering the Hockey games, the College's Athletics department also hosted a features article titled "New Dating App Overtakes Holy Cross Campus: LinkedIn", written by Amelia Ciarleglio '27. Another article penned by the same author, "Peep My Crib", also made headlines.
