Designated Release Sanctuary
In the heart of Detmold's old town, a new addition to the city's infrastructure has been unveiled. On September 9, 2025, the first 'Hopp' ma'-Zone' was presented by Mayor Frank Hilker, marking a significant step towards improving accessibility for elderly and mobility-impaired individuals.
The 'Hopp' ma'-Zone', located at the corner of Exterstraße/Krumme Straße/Lange Straße, is designed to provide a relaxed and convenient visit to the city center. This designated area, which also includes a second pick-up point on Schülerstraße, is equipped with two parking spaces for each point, clearly marked with 'Hopp' ma'' signs.
Each pick-up point features a bench with two seats, offering space for a rollator or wheelchair. The benches, installed by the Lebenshilfe Detmold Stöltinghof workshop, aim to encourage positive feelings, activity, and participation opportunities for those who use the 'Hopp' ma'-Zone'.
The 'Hopp' ma'' concept, first introduced in Regensburg on the same day, is part of a larger city portal project. The project, known as 'In Zukunft Detmold', is a collaborative effort between the city administration, GILDE Economic Development, and 'die Händler' business association. The goal is to enhance the city center's appeal to various groups, with a focus on improving the quality of stay, a key factor in attracting visitors.
If a pick-up point is occupied, an alternative can be used, ensuring that the 'Hopp' ma'-Zone' remains accessible at all times. Vehicles can stop in the 'Hopp' ma'-Zone' for up to 30 minutes without additional traffic signs, providing a safe and convenient experience for elderly or mobility-impaired individuals getting in or out of vehicles.
The 'Hopp' ma'-Zone' is more than just a parking area. It's a step towards a more inclusive city center, one that caters to the needs of all its residents and visitors. As Detmold continues to evolve, the 'Hopp' ma'-Zone' will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping a more accessible and welcoming city for everyone.
