Maria Lena Gallo (Trione): A Devoted Wife, Mother, and Community Volunteer
Maria Lena Gallo (Trione), a beloved figure in the Cupertino community, passed away on July 22, 2025, at the age of 80. Born in San Jose on January 12, 1945, Maria attended Notre Dame High School in San Jose and the College of Notre Dame in Belmont.
After her marriage to Joseph P. Gallo on August 7, 1965, Maria moved to Cupertino and raised her family. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and community volunteer, devoting her time to various schools in the area, including Regnart Elementary, Kennedy Jr. High, Bellarmine College Prep, and St. Francis HS.
Maria's passion for education and volunteering extended beyond the classroom. She served as a pre-school trainer for twenty years at De Anza Community College and was a Faith Formation catechist for over thirty years at St. Joseph's of Cupertino and St. Simon's of Los Altos.
Maria was a member of a close group of neighborhood friends and a 50-year member of YLI Maureen Institute #136. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, and supporting her family's activities. She seemed happiest when making ravioli with her grandchildren, sharing her cucidati at Christmas, or hosting dinner for family and friends.
Maria loved learning and traveling with her husband Joe. They enjoyed camping, cruises, and attending soccer/basketball games at Santa Clara University. In her final days, Maria spent time in hospice with Suncrest Hospice and caregivers from Senior Helpers.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Simon's Church on August 29 at 10:00 a.m. A rosary will be held at Lima Family Mortuary on August 28 at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Notre Dame High School, San Jose, or the Cancer Research Fund at Stanford University in her memory.
Maria is survived by her husband Joe, four children, nine grandchildren, a brother, and a sister-in-law. She was preceded by her brother Thomas Trione. Maria will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
