County Hall's grand display pays tribute to compassionate family members - County administration lauds loving relatives
In the heart of Germany, the County of Herford is taking a significant step to recognise and appreciate the invaluable work of caregivers. On September 8, the annual Day of Caregivers will be celebrated, a day that underscores the crucial role these individuals play in ensuring the smooth functioning of care services.
County Commissioner Jürgen Müller has emphasised the incalculable value of caregivers' commitment but laments its lack of public recognition. He believes that the Day of Caregivers is a small yet meaningful gesture to show appreciation for their tireless efforts.
Britta Holtmann, from the care planning department of the County of Herford, has spearheaded this initiative. Recognising the challenges faced by caregivers, she aims to draw attention to their achievements with a three-meter long banner. This banner will be displayed for one week, starting from September 8, 2025, in front of the Herford County Administration Building.
The banner is not the only initiative undertaken by the county. Britta Holtmann has also established several contact points for relatives, including mobile care consultations, the city of Herford, and care support points of health insurance companies such as AWO, IKK, and BKK HMR. These contact points offer advice on financial and other support, aids, official documents, or the organisation of care.
Moreover, the county administration offers support to its own employees through so-called care guides and a quarterly online exchange organised by the equal opportunities department.
The county is also a member of the state program "Compatibility of Work and Care", which includes several workshops and further training sessions for employees throughout the year. This program aims to help employees balance their work and caregiving responsibilities more effectively.
It's important to note that over 80 percent of people in need of care in Germany are cared for at home. However, professional care and support staff are only available to a limited extent, particularly for severely disabled people, making it increasingly difficult to obtain support from them.
Britta Holtmann acknowledges that many caregivers are overwhelmed due to bureaucratic, social, physical, and psychological challenges. The Day of Caregivers, she believes, is a way to highlight those who care for their loved ones at home with heart, time, and energy.
For any questions or inquiries, Britta Holtmann can be reached at any time by phone (05221 13-1405) and email (b.holtmann@our website). Let us take this opportunity to express our gratitude to the caregivers in Herford County and beyond, who selflessly dedicate their time and energy to ensuring the well-being of others.
