Coronavirus Outbreak Expands in Hockey Club "Barys"
In a recent report by Almaty.tv, citing Vesti.kz, the number of coronavirus cases within the well-known hockey club "Barys" has soared.
Bagdat Kodzhakhmetov, the official representative of the Ministry of Health, confirmed this alarming rise in cases. While initial reports indicated 12 infected players a week ago, further investigations unveiled that there were initially 11 cases, followed by the detection of eight more. As a result, the total number of COVID-19 cases within "Barys" has climbed to a concerning 19.
Kodzhakhmetov expressed concerns not only about the hockey club but also about work collectives at large. On September 17, 40 individuals from Barys' administration and team underwent a preventive examination. Of them, 11 tested positive for COVID-19. Immediate action was taken: a ban was issued on entering the "Barys Arena" stadium for 29 contacts, and the stadium was thoroughly disinfected and staff was briefed on anti-epidemic measures. However, during the examination of the 29 contacts on September 22, another eight team members tested positive. All 19 infected individuals are asymptomatic and receiving outpatient treatment.
These developments have affected "Barys'" return to the KHL playoffs, which was initially scheduled for October 4, with a home game against SKA lined up. However, given the new cases that emerged during isolation, the matches have been postponed for a few more days.
Let's face it, this disease doesn't discriminate. Nobody, not even pro athletes like those from "Barys", is immune to it. It's a bloody reminder that we're all in this mess together and need to take it seriously. Chances are, the KHL will be adjusting their schedules and formats to ensure safety, just like how other sports leagues are doing. Good luck, Barys, and stay the blasted course, brothers!
