Commission's Task Includes Proposing Legislation to Safeguard Workers from Radiation Hazards

On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, the AWO Federal Association will launch a new project in Eichenzell, Germany, titled "Caregivers in the Neighborhood - Promoting Health, Strengthening Prevention". This initiative aims to support informal caregivers—family members or close acquaintances who provide unpaid care to relatives or neighbours.

The project's focus is on caregivers, recognising them as experts for their own health and their environment. The event, titled "Roadmap for Home Care" - Information Evening for Caregivers, will kick off at 5 pm at the Smart City Forum Eichenzell (Fuldaer Str. 3a).

The evening promises to be an informative and engaging affair, with a variety of topics covered, including an overview of care services from health insurance, ways to relieve caregivers, dementia care, and a question & answer session. Notable speakers at the event include Mona Mühling, Michaela Romeis, Christina Marg, and Udo Bauch.

Each visitor will receive a raffle ticket with small prizes for the guests, and drinks and snacks will be provided. The project is supported by the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds (vdek) and is implemented in cooperation with various partners.

The project's goals include promoting caregivers' health, strengthening prevention, building neighbourhood support networks, and raising awareness about the challenges faced by informal caregivers. By integrating health promotion and preventive support at the local level, the project aims to improve the quality of life for caregivers and care recipients alike, fostering a sustainable, supportive neighbourhood environment in Eichenzell.

In addition, a steering committee for caregivers has been established in Eichenzell, accompanied by experts, inclusion networkers, and social space actors from Eichenzell and Fulda. This committee will work towards creating sustainable support offers to facilitate care in the neighbourhood and reduce stress.

The project does not specify the age group or demographic of the caregivers it aims to support, nor does it specify the nature of the challenges or stress faced by caregivers. However, the project's aim is clear—to provide a much-needed resource for those who care for loved ones at home, offering them the support, information, and community they need to navigate the challenges of caregiving effectively.

Andrea Tabaka, the AWO neighbourhood manager in Eichenzell, is at the helm of this initiative. The project is part of a larger nationwide effort to improve the conditions for a healthy and independent life in the home environment in a total of five neighbourhoods, including Eichenzell, Hesse. The "Caregivers in the Neighbourhood" project is set to make a significant difference in the lives of many caregivers in Eichenzell and beyond.

  1. The project, titled "Caregivers in the Neighborhood - Promoting Health, Strengthening Prevention," focuses on science and health-and-wellness, aiming to improve the health of caregivers through workplace-wellness programs and fitness-and-exercise activities.
  2. Given the challenges faced by informal caregivers in maintaining their mental health, the event dubbed "Roadmap for Home Care" includes a discussion on mental-health issues, providing caregivers with essential resources and strategies to cope effectively.
  3. By addressing aging populations and the unique needs of seniors who may require care, the project seeks to bring forward a more compassionate and understanding society, where caregivers, care recipients, and the community at large can work together, fostering a Health & Wellness environment for all ages.
