Brandon Blackstock, the former talent manager of Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, and Rascal Flatts, passed away on August 8, 2023, at the age of 48. Blackstock had been battling melanoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer, for over three years.
Blackstock and Clarkson started dating in 2012 and got married in 2013. They were blessed with two children, River Rose, born in 2014, and Remington Alexander, born in 2016.
The couple's relationship was deeply reflected in Clarkson's song "Piece By Piece," where she described Blackstock as someone who filled the holes left by her father and restored her faith in men and fathers.
However, their marriage ended in 2020 when Clarkson filed for divorce in Los Angeles. The divorce was finalized in March 2022. Following the divorce, Clarkson was granted primary custody of their two children.
Blackstock was involved in a California Labor Commission dispute with Kelly Clarkson. He was ordered to give her $2.6 million in commission he made from her contracts with The Voice, the Billboard Music Awards, Norwegian Cruise Lines, and Wayfair. In contrast, Clarkson was ordered to pay Blackstock $1.3 million, $45,000 per month in child support, and $115,000 a month in spousal support until January 31, 2024.
Blackstock was also accused of illegally working as a talent agent without a license.
Brandon Blackstock is survived by his father Narvel Blackstock, mother Elisa Gayle Ritter, siblings Shelby, Shawna, and Chassidy, his children and grandchild, and country music legend Reba McIntire, who was his stepmother for over 25 years. McIntire remained close to Blackstock even after her divorce from his father.
