AXA Organizes Hackathon to Boost Women in the Financial Services Industry's Power

Last week, AXA UK organised an event that brought together over 70 representatives from leading banks, investment managers, and insurance firms. The event, which focused on empowering women in the financial services sector, was a platform for open debate and creative solution-making.

AXA UK is partnering with Synectics Solutions to leverage its fraud prevention solution, SIRA, in an effort to support its anti-fraud strategy. The SIRA platform uses National SIRA data, the largest syndicated database of its kind.

The event, coordinated by AXA Retail Claims Director Suzy Tiffany, included a 'hackathon' where teams debated key issues and devised solutions for women in the sector. The discussions revolved around challenges faced by women working in financial services, such as gender bias, lack of representation, barriers to career progression, work-life balance challenges, and cultural and organizational challenges.

Participants and industry leaders identified these challenges and proposed solutions to increase the number of women in senior roles and create a more equitable work environment in finance. Some of the solutions proposed included developing targeted mentorship and sponsorship programs, creating flexible and inclusive workplace policies, implementing bias training and inclusive leadership development, and leveraging technology and data analytics to monitor gender diversity metrics.

AXA Investment Managers (AXA IM) has joined the 30% club, a commitment to drive best practice in gender equality. The collaboration aims to help AXA car and home insurance customers who are experiencing domestic abuse. AXA Retail is collaborating with Women's Aid and Smart Works charities to offer support for domestic abuse survivors in the UK.

Tara Foley, CEO of AXA UK and Ireland, shared her expertise and experience with the teams. She emphasised the importance of bringing together representatives to break down barriers and ensure equal opportunities for all in the finance sector. Suzy Tiffany expressed that the event provided an open platform for debate and creative solution-making.

The event was also supported by the female networking group FFInc. Megan Hale, CEO of Team Repair, was one of the judges at the event. The hackathon aimed to generate actionable ideas that financial firms can implement to increase the number of women in senior roles and create a more equitable work environment in finance.
