authorities seek participants for the 'Smart City App' trial

On October 6, 2025, the city of Wuppertal invites residents to test the "Smart City App," a digital urban development platform designed to improve health services and promote waste reduction. The event, taking place at PIKSL-Labor Wuppertal (Hofaue 21), is open to both tech-savvy individuals and those who are simply curious.

The primary focus of the test day is to examine the app's usability and benefits for senior citizens, mothers, and pregnant women. Interested parties can register for the test by emailing [email protected]. Registrants are asked to indicate which test group they belong to.

The digital urban development platform encompasses themes related to waste reduction, health services, and digital twins of cities. One of its key features is an AI chatbot, which will provide decision-making assistance for the reuse or proper disposal of everyday items.

This test aims to gather feedback for the improvement of the digital urban development platform before its official launch, scheduled for the summer of 2026. The platform will provide information on available health services in Wuppertal and mediate demand-oriented offers for health services.

Moreover, the "Smart City App" aims to sensitize users regarding their individual health behavior. During the test, various functions for user-friendliness and added value will be tested. To ensure a comfortable experience, snacks and drinks will be provided.

The development of the "Smart City Apps" in Wuppertal is coordinated by a research cooperation involving the city of Wuppertal, EFTAS Fernerkundung Technologietransfer GmbH, the Institute for Technologies and Management of Digital Transformation (TMDT) at Bergische Universität Wuppertal, and the Fraunhofer Institute for Physical Measurement Techniques IPM within the DigiTal Zwilling project.

The target group for the test includes senior citizens, mothers with and without a migration background, and pregnant women. The platform is intended to serve the citizens of Wuppertal, making it easier for them to access health services and make informed decisions about waste management.

Join us on October 6, 2025, and be a part of shaping the future of digital urban development in Wuppertal. Register now by emailing [email protected].
