Athletics competition "Europe-Asia" marathon in Ekaterinburg inaugurated by Tatyana Savinova
In the heart of Russia, on the eastern side of the Ural Mountains, the major city of Yekaterinburg played host to the 10th edition of the Europe-Asia Light Athletics Marathon on August 10. This annual event, which symbolises the city's unique position as a bridge between two continents, fosters international cooperation and regional pride.
The marathon, which offers races for distances of 1, 3, 10, 21, and 42 km, was opened by Tatiana Savinova, Deputy Governor and Minister of Health of the Sverdlovsk region. In her opening address, Savinova emphasised the importance of sport and health, stating that regular physical activity is the foundation of preventing many diseases and the key to active longevity.
The event attracted over 6,000 participants, including children as young as 7. The youngest competitors started their races with their parents, demonstrating the marathon's commitment to promoting an active lifestyle from an early age.
The marathon is not only a professional holiday for the medical community in the Sverdlovsk region but also a celebration of sports culture in Yekaterinburg. On the day of the marathon, a small concert by the group "Mojito" was held for the participants, while on October Square, Alex&Rus, NASTIKA (a participant of the "Songs on TNT" project), and Sergei Serkov, the former lead singer of the group "Laskovy May", performed for the marathoners.
