Sarah Jessica Parker Educates Children for Self-Reliance
Actress Sarah Jessica Parker, known for her role in "Sex and the City," shared insights into her parenting philosophy in a recent interview with "The E! News Sitdown with Bruce Bozzi." The 60-year-old actress elaborated on her approach to raising her three children to navigate adult life independently.
"I strive to educate my children in a manner that fulfills them," Parker explained. "I don't believe there's a single path to becoming an educated individual or an independent adult after college at 22 years old."
Emphasizing emotional and financial self-sufficiency, Parker expressed a desire for her children to pursue challenging, rewarding endeavors. "I want them to be able to take care of themselves, support themselves, and be reliable," she stated.
Parker's eldest son, James Wilkie, 22, has already started his acting career, appearing alongside his father, Matthew Broderick, in the CBS series "Elsbeth" in February. Broderick, who has been married to Parker since 1997, described the experience as special. "It was great. We had two days together. It was really fun, just hanging out at the craft service table and eating snacks," he said.
The actress hopes her children have choices in life. "I'm curious to see what they'll all do, but I hope they have the feeling that they have choices, and that there's not just one way," she added.
Alongside James Wilkie, Parker and Broderick have 15-year-old twin daughters, Tabitha Hodge and Marion Loretta Elwell. Reflecting on her twins, Parker humorously compared them to "a control study" during an earlier appearance on "Jenna and Friends."
Despite their high-profile lifestyle, the "New Year's Eve" star values grounded parenting. "People might get an unfair impression of my twin daughters," Parker stated, "but they're really interesting and curious."
The third season of "And Just Like That...," a continuation of "Sex and the City," premieres on May 29, featuring Parker in one of the lead roles.
