Alzheimer's Awareness Day 2025: Informational Event Held in Neustadt's Central District
On September 23, 2025, the Halle-Neustadt Shopping Center will host an event for World Alzheimer's Day, a global observance that was first marked in 1994 and this year carries the theme "Dementia - Being Human and Staying Human". The event will take place from 9 am to 4:30 pm at the Neustadt Centrum Halle, Neustaedter Passage 17d.
The day promises to be a valuable resource for those affected by dementia and their families, as various organisations will present their care offers and support services. Among these are the Alzheimer's Society of Saxony-Anhalt e.V., Home Instead (Halle an der Saale), Paul-Riebeck Foundation, and Volkssolidarität Foundation Halle. These organisations will provide advice on offers for people with dementia and their relatives.
The Social Psychiatric Services (SpDi) will also be present, offering their advisory and support services. The Saalekreis Sports Association will provide information on movement offers, emphasising the importance of physical activity in managing dementia symptoms. The Local Participation Management, guardianship authorities, Social Psychiatric Service, Consumer Center Saxony-Anhalt, and Cursus will also provide information at the event.
The city of Halle (Saale)'s connected care advice will be present, offering insights into the city's approach to dementia care. Lectures titled "Understanding and Accompanying Dementia" will take place at 10 am, 11 am, 2 pm, and 4 pm, providing attendees with a deeper understanding of the disease and its impact.
The event will feature information stands and lectures, offering a comprehensive approach to dementia care. It is a testament to the community's commitment to supporting those affected by dementia and raising awareness about the disease.
According to recent statistics, approximately 1.84 million people in Germany are currently living with dementia. In Saxony-Anhalt, the proportion of people over 65 with dementia is over 2.4 percent, which is above the national average. Dementia gradually and irreversibly takes away a person's knowledge and abilities, but the person remains with their feelings, memories, and empathy.
The Participation Management will provide information on participation and barrier-free access, ensuring that the event is inclusive and accessible for all. This year's World Alzheimer's Day event in Halle an der Saale aims to provide a supportive and informative environment for those affected by dementia and their families, while also raising awareness about the disease and its impact.
