Alum Julian Kahn of EIOH celebrates his 20th year as a part-time faculty member, noted for his patient and caring nature.
Julian Kahn: A Prosthodontist with a Family Legacy in Dentistry
Julian Kahn, a renowned Prosthodontist, has made a significant impact in the field of dentistry, particularly at the School 17. His career path, however, is deeply rooted in his family background and education.
Born into a family of dentists, Kahn's early exposure to the field was unparalleled. His father, a prosthodontist, served as president of the Peru Prosthodontics society, while his sister practiced endodontics, and her husband became a general dentist. Kahn's childhood home even had a pediatric dentistry practice in the basement, run by his mother.
Kahn's educational journey began in dental school in Peru, where he graduated. He then took a significant step forward by being accepted into Eastman's Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program, the first in his family to travel to the United States for advanced training.
After completing his AEGD, Kahn returned to Peru for three years, working alongside his father. However, in 2000, he made the difficult decision to return to the U.S., this time to Eastman's Prosthodontics Residency Program. During his time as a Prostho resident, Kahn spent extensive time in the lab after hours and on weekends, further honing his skills.
In 2003, Kahn became a full-time faculty member in Eastman's Community Dentistry and the AEGD program. He also joined Elmwood Dental for private practice, but continued teaching part-time in General Dentistry. Kahn's practice is limited to Prosthetic dentistry.
Kahn played a key role in establishing an adult patient base at School 17. He has been teaching part-time in Prosthodontics for the last six years, while continuing private practice. Kahn is also a Clinical Site Director at the School 17 clinic.
Kahn's dedication to his profession is evident in his commitment to various dental conferences and meetings. He has never missed a single Brewer Conference or an unofficial alumni reunion at the American Prosthodontic Society annual meeting.
Currently, Kahn and his fiancé, Dr. Konstantina Tzouma, plan to spend their honeymoon in Thailand. His 14-year-old son Jacob is considering joining the family tradition to become a dentist.
The education Kahn received at Eastman wasn't just from faculty, but also from fellow residents. Dr. Mahshid Torabi, a second-year resident in Prosthodontics, described Kahn as a very caring person for both patients and residents. Kahn is hands-on when the residents need help.
Despite extensive searches, no specific biographical or professional details about Kahn have been found in publicly available sources. For a more comprehensive understanding of Kahn's personal and educational influence on his career as a Prosthodontist, direct biographical sources such as dental school alumni records, professional dental organization profiles, or published interviews would provide the most accurate and authoritative information.
