It's a big game in Braunsbedra! Experts have weighed in on the footage claiming to show a puma near the Geiseltalsee, and their verdict is intriguing. After scrutinizing the surroundings, the video evidence, and comparing size ratios, the experts are left with no doubt - the supposed puma is significantly smaller than they initially thought.
A second video, further supporting this theory, also reveals a smaller creature than initially assumed. The suspicion initially arose when an employee from the district office captured the first video, leading to a full-blown manhunt by authorities. Drones, a thermal imaging camera, and a helicopter were deployed but yielded no results.
The district's department head had previously stated a whopping 80% probability of a puma. However, the mayor of Braunsbedra, home to 10,000 residents, remarked to T-Online, "I'm assuming it's a puma."
flashback: Puma-like Events in Berlin
The district had previously vowed to tranquilize the mysterious animal if spotted again, urging people to steer clear. Authorities also advised keeping dogs on a leash and avoiding woods and heavily overgrown areas.
This incident mirrors an alleged lion sighting in Berlin in 2023. Police, hunters, and veterinarians searching for 30 hours with helicopters and drones for the elusive big cat that appeared in a grainy cell phone video. The same experts were consulted then. Upon examination of the video, they discovered distinct differences in the back, tail, and legs. In that case, the "lion" turned out to be a wild boar.
