The city of Munich invites its residents and visitors to participate in the "Day of First Aid" (Tag der Ersten Hilfe) on July 26, 2025. This event, organised by the city's Health Department with the support of Mayor Dieter Reiter, will take place at eight locations across the city from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

One of the venues includes Marienplatz, where a special Teddy Bear Hospital will be set up for children to learn first aid measures in a fun and engaging way. Other locations include Rotkreuzplatz, Münchner Freiheit, and several other city sites that have yet to be named.

At these locations, attendees will have the opportunity to practice heart compressions on manikins and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs). These hands-on training sessions are designed to equip participants with lifesaving skills and promote emergency readiness citywide.

A survey by the Red Cross found that 41% of respondents' last first aid course was 15 years ago. The longer it's been since a first aid course, the less knowledge remains, according to the Red Cross survey. This event aims to address this gap by offering accessible and engaging first aid training.

Participation in the Day of First Aid is open to everyone, regardless of prior experience. The event will feature eight locations with first aid experts from organisations such as the German Red Cross, the Munich Medical Association, the Aicher Ambulance Union, Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V., Malteser Hilfsdienst e.V., and the MKT-Institut for Emergency Medicine and Disaster Relief Training in Bavaria gGmbH.

Every year, over 120,000 people experience sudden cardiac arrest in Germany, and only 10% of those who experience this survive. By promoting first aid knowledge and skills, the Day of First Aid in Munich aims to save lives and increase the chances of survival for those in emergency situations.

So, mark your calendars for July 26, 2025, and join the city of Munich in learning and practicing lifesaving first aid skills.
